Minorca possesses beautiful beaches and creeks which reminds of the Caribbean! The island remained intact and the hiking trails all around the island are very well maintained. It is essential to have a car during your stay at the villa but you are also free to explore the island by foot, bicycle, horse and with a canoe.
Mahon, the capital, remained intact. You will find many tapas bars, cafés and good restaurants that are worth trying. The capital is also famous for its Mahón-Menorca labelled cheese, because Minorca not only offers fantastic beaches but also gastronomic treasures as this delicious cheese.
Es Grau.
The villa is located in S’Albufera national park, a real birds sanctuary, of an exceptional natural beauty with its numerous lakes. The location is ideal for hiking and nature-waching lovers. Es Grau fishermen’s preserved small village is at 10 minutes by car and a 30-min walk away from the villa. Es Grau benefits from a beautiful beach in a sheltered bay, with the shallow and transparent water allowing small children to swim safely. Cliffs, dunes and the scrubland allow various beautiful rides. The village offers a great selection of restaurants and bars where you will be able to taste traditional Spanish dishes and some freshly fished local fish. You will enjoy de wonderful view on the bay from The Tamarindos restaurant and the Es Molle Bar at the water’s edge.
There is a lot of cultural activities in Mahon, including a boat trip around the historic port, the second deepest in the world, with the possibility of visiting the factory of Gin. One of the most symbolic liqueurs in Minorca is gin, made with grapes wine flavored with juniper berries, for almost a century, in Gin Xoriguer distilleries. You should also visit the vast internal market, and the historic buildings.
Mahon in Minorca (Balearic Islands, Spain) is a magnificent historic town perched along a deep estuary. Still Spanish Military naval base on one side, the maritime military activity has been however greatly reduced… You will also admire the city’s beautiful architecture. From the 10th century, Mahon has been highly coveted by Crusaders, then pirates, the Spanish-Genoese, the Ottoman Turks and then the French who were fighting against the English. You will have understood it, this city is steeped in history which makes it so attractive. It is not Ibiza, the city is peaceful and calm. But Mahon has this undeniable charm that will make you fall in love with it before you even realize. Have a walk at the sea in the estuary to enjoy the beauty of the place.
The former capital Ciutadella on the west coast is only 45 minutes away by car and is really worth visiting. Fornells city, on the north coast is only 25 minutes away by car and offers some water sports in a big protected bay like sailing and water-skiing.
